Bought A Brand New Car? Here are 4 things To Do Before A Ceramic Coating.
Congratulations on your brand new car! If you’re reading this blog, there is a good chance you won’t overlook one of the most important aspects of owning a car! Protecting it properly from day one, easily done with a high-quality ceramic coating from an authorised CarPro detailer like Infinity Detailing Studio. Here at Infinity Detailing Studio, we specialise in ceramic coatings, paint correction, car show prep, bespoke detailing and more! We are located in Prestons, NSW. We have seen it all, from cars being poorly handled at dealerships and new owners unknowingly scratching their cars.
Here are four things to consider before booking your car in for a ceramic coating:
Choosing A Trusted Ceramic Coating Installer (Not Just The Cheapest)
The detailing world is flooded with lots of ceramic coatings & lots of options for installers. One thing to understand is that not all ceramic coatings are equal and nor are the detailers installing them. Customers can easily get confused when enquiring for quotes, as unfortunately, there are a lot of “detailers” who undercut the competition, and it shows in their quality of work when they do so. Price is usually not the only thing they cut corners on. For them to offer such appealing prices, they would be cutting corners on their work. If something is too good to be true, it usually is.
Here’s an example of what to watch out for. One detailer quoted you $1800 for a ceramic coating package that takes 2 days to complete, while another quoted you $700 for the “same thing”, and the car can be picked up the same day. Do you see the problem? Be sure to ask what the quote includes. There are some “detailers” that advertise a “8-stage paint correction “, but they falsely include a wash as a stage or something else ridiculous. This deceptive type of advertising shows the quality of the detailer.
A proper ceramic coating should provide:
Long-term hydrophobic protection
UV resistance
Resistance to chemical staining and light scratches
Easier cleaning and long-lasting gloss
But these results only come when the paint is properly prepared and corrected, and the coating is applied by a certified professional in a controlled environment. At Infinity Detailing Studio:
We are certified installers of CarPro C.Quartz and D.Quartz Pro coatings
Offer paint correction packages to refine your finish first
Include proper decontamination and curing procedures
Provide genuine warranties and aftercare education
2. Instruct The Dealer To Wash Or Touch The Car
This is easily the most overlooked step when purchasing a new car, as buyers get caught up in the excitement of buying a new car. New cars can sit for months at the docks or at the dealership, where they can be damaged before they even reach you. Instruct the dealer not to wash the car & to leave all plastics on for the detailer to remove. Be sure to mention not to apply tyre dressings. Dealerships use silicon tyre dressings that are incredibly hard for us detailers to remove. We always paint new vehicles as they are damaged by the dealer incorrectly washes the car.
To avoid the dealer damaging your new car:
Before taking delivery, email or call your dealer and request:
“Please do not wash, polish, detail, or apply any protection to the vehicle. I will handle the prep and detailing myself.”
It helps to put this in writing and confirm again on pickup day. Ask that the car be left with its factory wrap if possible.
3. Don’t Wash The Car Yourself (Yet)
It’s so tempting to wash your new car! It might have a bit of dust on it or you just have some free time. Don’t do it yet!
Even with the right intentions, most people cause damage by:
Using the wrong sponges or towels
Lacking a proper two-bucket wash technique
Forgetting to pre-rinse or foam the surface
Drying with bathroom towels or chamois
This introduces micro-marring and swirls that will later be locked under your ceramic coating unless the car goes through machine polishing first.
At Infinity Detailing Studio, we use:
pH-balanced snow foam
Microfiber-safe wash mitts
Two-bucket system with grit guards
Deionised water rinse
Clean microfiber drying towels
Let us handle the first wash—done before your ceramic coating—and ensure no new damage is introduced to your fresh paintwork.
3. Educate Yourself On Ceramic Coatings & Safe Washing
How good & healthy your ceramic coating is doesn’t rest 100% on the installer. How you take care of it plays a large factor in how successful your coating is. Too often, customers believe some ceramic coating myths, thinking ceramic coatings are bulletproof; they’re not. They still need to be properly & safely washed with pH-neutral soaps. Avoiding automatic car washes, safe washing techniques and washing it every 1-2 weeks.
At Infinity Detailing Studio, we educate every customer on:
How to wash your coated car safely
Which products to use (and avoid)
How to extend your coating’s lifespan
When to schedule decontamination or booster toppers
We also offer aftercare kits and guides, tailored for your coating and driving habits.
